Denture FAQs

Sunflower

It is not uncommon for a brand-new denture to cause sore spots on your gums. Simply call the practice that provided the services, and they will let you know what time of day to return to have your denture adjusted. Adjustments help eliminate sore spots, and there is typically no charge during the first 90 days. Following 90 days, a small fee is charged for adjustments.

How do I know what new dentures will cost?

Star Dental wants you to know what fees will be charged prior to you coming to the practice. You can get price information in three ways:

  • Can call Star Dental directly.
  • Call  719-597-7979. They can provide free information over the phone and will mail you an information brochure with practice fee information at no charge.
  • Visit the Locations button on this website to see the fee schedule for the practice you would like to visit.

No one wants to be embarrassed because your treatment plan was far more than you could afford. We show the practice fees so you can have a reasonable estimate of the cost of the services you will need.

How can your fees be so low?

Having an on-site denture lab eliminates the added markup that is charged by outside commercial dental labs. We eliminate the “middle man” and pass the savings on to patients. With the Star Dental practice, we have cost-saving, volume-buying power for all our clinical supplies and materials. Our focus on denture services allows us to standardize our treatment plans and denture fabrication. The practices operate very cost-effectively. Our practices are comfortable but not luxurious – this helps keep our fees low!

Do you accept dental insurance?

We accept Medicaid, Delta Dental, Metlife, and most other insurances.

When should I replace my denture?

Dentures commonly need to be replaced every five to ten years. Patients find that as their jaw bone shrinks, the fit of their dentures changes as well. Have your dentures evaluated during a yearly dental visit because it is normal for your mouth to change and denture teeth to be worn down?

How often should I visit the dentist now that I have dentures?

You should visit your dentist once a year, even if you have lost some or all of your original teeth. The dentist will be able to evaluate the fit and condition of your dentures, recommend denture care and hygiene techniques, and check for other issues that may develop, such as oral cancer.

What if I have an emergency?

Our practice is able to provide same-day treatment for patients who are in pain and need emergency emergency evacuation services. Your health conditions and any medications you take will determine if extraction services can be provided. Same-day denture service is very helpful if an emergency occurs because you unexpectedly lost or broke your denture. Since our practice has an on-site lab, emergency REPAIRS can usually be accommodated on the same day.

How should I clean my Dentures?

Cleaning during the daily care of your dentures is essential to avoid stains and odor and to keep them looking their finest. For everyday cleaning, use a soft brush and a cleaning agent, such as soap and water, or products sold especially to clean dentures. To prevent the build-up of harmful bacteria, be sure to brush both the inside and outside of your dentures. We also recommend soaking your dentures in water or a denture cleaning agent when you take them out at night. Be sure to rinse off your dentures after soaking them, as the chemicals can be harmful to the soft tissues in your mouth.

Avoid scrubbing dentures with abrasive materials such as stiff-bristled brushes, products containing bleach, or whitening kinds of toothpaste. These can damage the dentures. Water can warp your dentures if they are too hot, and soaking items that have metal fittings in chlorinated solutions can make the metal tarnish.
